Opposites, Musing #4…or...Wait For It
This is delicious bite #4 on holding opposites.
In the last post, we pondered on discerning our YESes and NOs - the classic opposite pairing.
It sounds great in theory.
Though for many of us, when we actually try it, picking up the distinct feeling of calm expansion (yesssss) or buzzing contraction (NOpe!) can still seem elusive.
Like you’re tuning in to a radio station using a dial - ha, remember those? - but no matter how finely you tune it, you’re still just getting static.
As with many things worth pursuing, this might take some practice.
Important Side Note: This is a logical outcome in a world where people are trained to suppress listening to their basic bodily signals. Ever since elementary school, young people have to ask permission to attend to some of their most fundamental physical needs (when to eat, when to use the bathroom, etc.). How many of you out there have ‘forgot’ to attend to basic needs like eating, peeing, or drinking water - because some other need seemed more pressing? So, no need to add this to your list of reasons to feel not enough. You are.
Ok, so what if you can’t conjure up those distinct yes/no feelings spontaneously?
How about this: notice the next time you get a clear internal signal of YES or NO.
And then see what your version of that feels like, and note it for future reference. Your friend’s yes might be an uptick of internal excitement and energy. You might feel your shoulders relax. Just observe.
Can you easily feel into your Y/N? Or, will you need to scan for the next time each registers on your internal radar?
Send me a message - I’d love to hear!
