Opposites Musing #3…Or, Your Wellspring
This is bite-o’-deliciousness #3 on holding opposites.
Post #1 I talked about what it means to “hold opposites.”
Post #2 I talked about why we might hold opposites.
Today we get to learn a technique for how holding opposites can help us discern what we want when we have a choice to make.
This isn’t a pro/con list-making endeavor...though that might be a place to start.
Sure, sometimes externalizing our thoughts from our worrying mind onto paper (or the device of your choice) can bring relief. Simply because it frees some mental bandwidth.
But your body, beyond your conscious mental processing, has so much more information for you to discover. Why not tap into that wellspring? This visceral information isn’t subject to the mind trick of rationalization. It’s where the deeper truths lie.
So how do we go beyond rationalization and into the wisdom of the body?
Start by feeling into your yeses and nos.
Dr. Kim D’Eramo, founder of the American Mind Body Institute has a short video on this. And you can tap into your deep intelligence for making decisions, as she talks about here.
Where do you notice, respectively, the YES and the NO in your body?
Is it expansion or tightness in your chest/stomach/throat? Tingling/cold in your fingers? Something else? I’d love to hear - drop me line!
And next time I’ll share another how technique for holding opposites.
